Visitor's Question:
I fell in love with a girl a few years ago when I was 24, I'm 30 now, she knew I liked her alot, and we were good friends. I felt she liked me a little too, but she was with a guy, and she was really loyal to him. One day she came in upset, crying her eyes out; her boyfriend had cheated on her, and I held her while she cried. Pretty soon after that she began expressing her affection for me a little more strongly. I knew, thanks to a friend of hers, that she was just waiting for me to ask her out. I never did.
My situation at home with my family, namely my fathers debt and health problems, made me feel so embarrased and beneath her, I didn't have the confidence to just go for it. And she knew my situation, and she didn't care, she just wanted to be with me. It took a few months, but she eventually went back to her old boyfriend. After that she got a better job across the street and I hardly ever saw her.
I've been in love with her for years and I can't let go of what could have been, or what might be just in case she has trouble with him again. It haunts me that I didn't take the chance with her. Just the other day I found out that they moved to Colorado. I'm crushed. The last time I saw her I was such a miserable sad sack, the conversation was horrible, and I hate the idea of that being our last conversation, but it is. I thought about writing her a letter or email, just to see how she's doing. Is that a good idea? How do I deal with any of this? Please give me some advice.

Our Suggestion:
Write her a chatty email catching her up to date with your life.

Don't fill it with feelings or explanations since that would be awkward.

Ask her how she is doing.

No doubt she will reply in the same chatty manner and you can find closure.

Good luck!
George
