I don't want to drive her away, but I also don't want to lose her to someone else

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
This girl and I have known eachother for a few years, but have only recently spent much time together. This past weekend I was invited to a wedding and she came as my date. We danced, talked, and had a great time. I would really like to take it past being just friends but not lose our friendship. So far the farthest its gone is a hug goodnight when I take her home. She's everything I could ever ask for a girl to be but I'm not sure if she's intrested in dating me or just being good friends. I don't want to drive her away, but I also don't want to lose her to someone else. What do you recommend? (she's almost 18, I'm 20)

Our Suggestion:
There are some risks you have to take to get what you want.

Since you have known her for a long time, it doesn't seem likely that she would cease being your friend if you let her know how you feel.

Mention to her that you are "developing feelings" for her and wait for her reply. If she doesn't respond, tell her you will give her some time to think about it and ask her the next time you are in contact.

Best of luck to you! George
