Visitor's Question:
Other's efforts drawing my best friend and I apart

Well, my problem isn't overly serious, it's just that there's this guy who's 16 like me, in Year 11 and we're like best friends almost. He's the nicest guy and a bit quiet though. Recently, my friends have discovered that I like him a lot, and have decided to take the matter into their own hands by springing questions on him, like asking him if he likes me, and then telling him that, because we have our ball coming up in a few months, that 'one of their friends' really likes him, but is too shy to say anything, and then at the bus stop, while we were talking they came up and told him flat out that he should ask me out! That was completely humiliating, and since then, things have been kind of awkward between us, like where once we'd chat non-stop, there's embarrassing silences. I've tried bringing the subject up, to check to see that nothing's changed since then or anything, and apologised furiously for the efforts of my friends, and he keeps changing the subject! I want to be able to tell him, that I see him as more than a friend, but he seems to be avoiding that area. I just don't know what I should do now, could you help me? Thanks a lot.

Our Suggestion:
Yes, keep talking with him until you feel he understands.

Isn't it possible that he likes you just as a friend and not romantically? That would explain his avoidance of the subject and his failure to invite you to the ball.

I think you should keep your relationship at friends until he makes a move.

Good luck!
George
