Visitor's Question:
Hi! Through spending a lot of time at a bookstore, I have become friends with one of the workers there. We are always talking and when I wander away from him, he comes and finds me or sneaks up behind me. My problem is that I have a huge crush on him, but I am afraid of asking him to meet with me outside of his work. I mentioned that we should have met up sometime before I left for college, but he said no, because I wouldn't like him outside the bookstore. We are very flirty, to the extent that other customers think we are dating. I have visited him several times since I left, and he always seems very glad to see me. I really think he likes me as more than a friend, but seeing as how I have had no previous dating experience, I am deathly afriad of rejection, and therefore have not asked him out. Also, he is five years older than me and I think that kind of freaks him out. Am I wasting my time or does he like me back? How do I ask to meet him outside his work?

Our Suggestion:
Try this:

Instead of asking him out, which you find threatening, say to him "You know, if you asked me out I would say yes."

This gives him the opening to ask you out immediately or soon after. Or if he is too afraid himself he may just let it drop and you two will never be together because both of you are too afraid. That would be a shame.

Give this a try... it will probably work! George
