Visitor's Question:
I have been seeing this guy in the military for 3 months now. Everytime we have been out with my friends he starts an arguement with me over stupid issues. We automatically go from laughing and having fun to fighting in seconds.
This weekend we went out to a local bar with a group of my girlfriends and their husbands. All the girls sat at a table drinking, chatting and laughing while the men stood up and talked together. Next thing I know my boyfriend is interagating me about smoking. And makes me feel like I've done something wrong. He actually got me upset and crying and then when I was crying he got even more angry.
I almost feel he is jealous or upset that I might be having a good time. And his personality gets very "dry" when we are around my friends or family. And both my friends and family have been very welcoming to him. Otherwise the relationship is great. When we are alone together we are the happiest couple ever. He tells me that he is so lucky to have such a wonderful girlfriend...etc...
I can tell I have strong feelings for him but I find myself holding back because of these weird out burst.

Our Suggestion:
It's time for you two to have a talk.

When he is in a good mood and you have time to do it, start a long, deep, honest, trusting and caring talk with him. Explain to him that his public behavior with you is not working out and is jeopardizing your relationship.

It's possible that his father treated his mother the same way he is treating you. A lot of behavior is learned as a child. Try to find some explanation of his behavior so you two can work on it and try to solve his problem.

Make sure he is willing to try to fix the problem. If he isn't then dump him.

Good luck! George
