I can't just say "Hi I love you"

Suggest Advice

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
I met this girl in 7th grade and i fell in love with her almost right away. she knew but i never told her directly. i was always too shy to tell her or even really to talk to her much. we are both in 11th grade now and the feeling has only gotten stronger since then and now i want to tell her personally but i dont even know how to start or what to say. we are friends and we talk every day but not about anything personal. it would be awkward to just come out and say it and im sure it would catch her off guard. i just need help with what to say and how to say it. im expecting this advice to say "tell her how you feel" or whatever but i cant just say "hi i love you" because she would probably walk away because of the awkwardness. i really need actual help, not any vague chiches please.

Our Suggestion:
I gave you a fairly good answer in your last question about two weeks ago.

My advice was to work gradually on building up your guts until you were comfortable talking to this girl.

If you are now ready to talk to her alone and tell her how you feel, you don't go in blurting out "I love you." That will scare her off. What you say instead is "I am developing feelings for you."

This gives her the idea but in a gentle non-threatening way. She can answer right away that she feels the same way. Or she might say she wants to be friends. Or she might not know what to say. If that's the case, then tell her you will give her time to think it over and you will ask her again the next time you see her. Then be sure to do it.

Good luck! George
