I'm watching Pride and Prejudice, and it is scary that in it Charlotte feels that she is doomed because she is not married by age 27. Her life is over. Thank goodness we live in at least slightly more modern times ...

Why is it that some people can find a mate so easily and seem to get along so well with others while some of us have to look so long and hard and struggle with relationships. Maybe some of us are kinda stubborn and picky, while others just go for it and learn to accept others quirky ways!

You have to work at it, My wife and i have been together 26yrs, through thick and thin we have come through,. My first wife died in Kansas when a house fell on her after a hurricane hit the farm she was staying at . All they found of her were her Red shoes, if this had not happened i would not have met my present wife, there is a lot of luck involved. I am a great believer in fate and destiny, just persevere.

Shauny, that's a terrible tragedy but as you say, things happen for a reason I guess and you now have a wonderful wife.

I often worry about my daughter's who's nearly 20 and doesn't have any boyfriend at all - we live in a small town and she doesn't get out much due to studies and work. She's not into going to clubs on her own and I worry she's going to end up married to her job and as she says, 'raising cats' instead. Let's hope one day fate will shine on her too.

My first wife actually left me in 1977 with twin girls aged 2, she has not seen them from that day to this, they will be coming 30 this May. I use that explanation ( much to the amusement of the twins i might add )of her desertion of us . I deeply apologise Sonia if i gave you the wrong impression, it was not intentional, it is just a way of dealing with that event in our lives. The rest is fact,If she had'nt have left i would'nt have met my wife, have another beautiful 18yr old daughter and two beautiful Grand- Daughters. Fate indeed.

Have you read the research about the difficulties some men and women have finding partners? I can't remember the details and I don't think I kept the paper, but it must be on the Internet somewhere.

Anyway, it seems that bright successful women can't find partners because they want their men to be at least as smart and successful as they are, if not more so. There just aren't enough suitable men for them.

Meanwhile the average man wants an attractive wife who is not too bright and so doesn't cause him too much of a challenge. The successful career women around today do not fit the bill.

Successful men and attractive amenable women find each other while successful women and unsuccessful men lose out.

Something like that anyway.

I'm not sure that it's true. Probably for some but not others.

PDM I did in fact read that same research, it was fascinating. I definitely know many wonderful, smart women who are all alone romantically because they just can't find any guy to hook up with. They are smart, successful, fun, friendly, you name it. But the guys they date seem to be more after the floozie type. I'm sure there must be guys out there who would appreciate these women, but I'm not sure how to find them.

the way it works is that guys feel threathened by powerful, intelligent women.....most women ie floozies just dumb themselves down to attract the avarage guy

And on the other side of the coin was my 'father' who was one of the laziest people I've ever known. Mum was the brains and yes she was very qualified and my 'father' used this because she earned a great salary and his thoughts were 'why should he work when she earned such a good salary.
