I'm Lying to Cover my Past
Visitor's Question from a 13-15 year old Female My boyfriend and I broke up for about four months before we started going out again. During those months I was seeing a guy but only as "friends". I did kiss this "friend" a couple of times, though. Now that I am back with my old boyfriend he keeps asking me if I kissed anyone during the time that we weren't together. I told him I hadn't because I don't want to get him upset. I hate lying to him but I would really break his heart if I told him the truth. Should I keep on going with the story of not kissing anyone or should I tell him the truth?? Is it true that what you don't know does not hurt you???
RomanceClass.com Advice Tell him the truth. Tell him now. Lies always come back to get you - and if a person knows you are capable of lying for months to cover your butt, how can they ever trust you in the future with anything else? If you could lie about something silly like a kiss, how could he trust you to be truthful if anything more serious happened? Tell him, apologize and work through it.
