Does the guy like me or hate me?

Their is a guy that I like, but some of my friends said that he doesn't like me that way, and he acts differently when its just me and him, but then when i'm around him when all of his friends are around he won't talk to me. Does the guy like me or hate me? I can't figure it out....every time I try to forget him, I run into him, hear about him, and my feelings for him resurface. Please help me. I ould defintely appreciate it

The quick answer is to remain friends with him and flirt with him and see where it goes. Let him take the initiative to push it further into a date. If he continues to be wishy-washy, then you might want to move on and find someone else to like that will return your feelings.
