I have a friend who has a so-called "boyfriend from hell".

Visitor's Question from a 41-50 year old Female
I have a friend who has a so-called "boyfriend from hell".This guy is always making disgusting remarks about women, saying that they are all dumb and useful for one thing only.He treats her like crap, but, she always runs back to him.He has even come onto me a few times, but,I would never go out with him because of his attitude.I'm not a dummy by any means.I have a good job, read all the time, have several hobbies, etc. This guy even makes fun of me and I always shoot back at him to let him know that I'm not a dumb, helpless, little female. My friend whines about how this guy treats her and then goes back to him the next day.I think that she feels that she can't be alone and do without a man.I don't understand these guys that seem to be living still in the Dark Ages.I've told this guy that not all women are dumb, but,he just laughs. He even makes remarks about Catholics(I belong to the Catholic Church).I think he does this because his ex-wife is one.Why do some guys put on this macho bull-crap?Are these guys really full of themselves or do they have issues with low self-esteem?I've run into a lot of guys that think like this.Hope you can help! Thanks

At this point, there's no way this guy will change. All you can do is support your friend and encourage her to be her own person. But she's going to have to be the one to see the faults in this man before she will leave him. Unfortunately, you can't change her any more than you can change him.

As to why guys are like this, it's all in how people are raised. And only by working with younger children and ensuring that they don't adopt the poisonous attitudes of the older generation, only then will we have a world without prejudice and bigotry.

Sorry I can't be more upbeat.
