I felt he was completely honest with me and so was I with him

Original Visitor's Question from a 21-30 year old Female
Me and my ex used to be best friends before we actually formed a couple. We've known eachother for five years. And that's why we made up this stupid rule: we mustn't care about each other too much so that we could still be friends after we break up. Everything was going really well, we were closer than ever, I felt he was completely honest with me and so was I with him. He was the first guy I ever got pretty intimate with and I was the same for him. I was so in love with him and I still am..and this one evening I told him I was. He was pretty shocked and told me that he wasn't the right person, that he felt weird about it , that he really thought that I believed in our "rule" and that he wasn't ready for a more serious relationship. The next day he was surprinsingly OK about it. We came really close to having sex that evening and it was pretty obvious that it would soon happen. But after that he stopped calling me. After about 2 days he e-mailed me saying that we'd gone too far in this relationship and if we continued it we would have reached a point where we couldn't be friends after breaking up. I know he cared about me but I'm not sure if he was in love with me..even though I felt it when he looked into my eyes or when he kissed me. He never said he loved me, he just said things like " I can't get enough of you" or " when I hold you in my arms really tight I feel that the tightest I can hold you is still not enough ". I'm so in love with him..even though we were only together for one month. He was always pretty gealous of the guys I used to date and yesterday when he heard that another boy was asking me out I felt him fume inside.. We're still friends now but it's not the same as before.. Can I do anything to get him back?
