Original Visitor's Question from a 31-40 year old Female
I've been with my bf for over a year now, he has a mental Illness, that he doesnt try to take care of, He gets on meds, then stops them, He Hit me the other night, busted my Nose and split my Lip, I LOVE HIM and I know he has a Mental Illness, but He uses that as an excuse for all the Verbal abuse,(that hurts as worse as the busted nose did) but now he's hit me, swears he wont do it again, but can I really rely on that? It hurts, I love him so much, But Ive heard so Many people say, HE wont do it again,.. I Never thought he would Do it the first time, he suffers from bi polar manic depression, with parainoid dellusins, with a touch of pscycophrania... and Says he doesnt need his meds , What Do I Do? If he loved me he'd do anything possible to be better? am I turning my back on him? Ive tried for almost 2yrs... still the same HELP! thanks alot

User Submitted Advice from a 51-60 year old Female
Be prepared

I am a 52 yr old. I just got out of an 8 months verbal and abusive marriage. I have been around the block and I thought I feel in love with this man because I knew he attended AA a recovered alcoholic and on anti depression pills. One serious word of advice. These issues are not ours but get to be yours when you date or marry into this, Make sure they are seeking counseling. Once they hit it is definietly over in my eyes. No excuse for hitting or verbal abuse. They have the issues and they need to adress it and get it under control before they ever get into a relationship. It isn't fair to you or the other person. A month later I met a wonderful christian man on the internet and I know we will get married. Not that people who attend AA or or medicine for bi=polar or anti depression can't have a relationship. It is a very serious issue and be prepared and educated before getting into it. God bless.....
