Taking A Break, scared of actual Break Up

We often have visitors write in with solutions to each others' problems. Here is a visitor's solution to one of our visitor's questions.

Original Visitor's Question from a 21-30 year old Female
So my boyfriend surprised me 4 days ago, saying, "I think we should break up."

He said he wasn't sure if he was happy and needed to figure things out. I mean...it makes sense to me, because he's a just graduated Senior in High School (we've been dating since january), and he has to balance work, me, and his friends during his LAST SUMMER. It makes sense. And he even talked about it months ago when we were really stable.

Anyway, I cried when he wanted to break up, and after we talked for a while, I convinced him that we should take a break instead. He agreed.

Now...I'm waiting for that phone call that'll decide our fate. He said he loved me and that during the last 2 weeks of our relationship he feels "miserable without me, but at the same time, miserable around me" (due to my and jealousy problems, that were actually recently resolved). I know he didn't want to do it, but he had to to figure his own life out. He even plain out said, "It sounds selfish, but I need to be happy first."
I told him that I respect that, which I do! I'd probably do the same thing.

Now here's my worry. I'M COMPLETELY terrified of him breaking up with me. It's practicly a 50/50 chance. I'm waiting for that call that'll either end in smiles or tears.
I personally feel like he won't break up with me...but I'm so scared I'm wrong because I'M THE ONE who came up with the going on a break idea, and he flat out wanted to break up.

I don't know what to think. I'm so scared and I love him so much.
