Should I Admit to Having Cheated?

We often have visitors write in with solutions to each others' problems. Here is a visitor's solution to one of our visitor's questions.

Original Visitor's Question from a 31-40 year old Female
I have been in a loving relationship with my boyfriend for 3 years now. During that time I have never that about or wanted to be with another man. This all changed when an x boyfriend came back in to my life. We were spending and evening together when one thing lead to another and before I knew it I had cheated on my boyfriend.

I do not want to have an affair or continue this relationship. I am deeply in love with my boyfriend and do not want to lose him. My question is should I tell him that I slept with another man?

User Submitted Advice from a 41-50 year old Female

I can tell you from experience that the other person does NOT always find out. And as Ann Landers always said, "The only reason a cheater tells about what happened is to take the guilt off their own shoulders. It will come to no good. If you believe it will not happen again and it only happened once, keep it to yourself, no matter HOW guilty YOU feel and move on and forward with this man you love so much."
