Visitor's Question:
I've lived with my girlfriend for almost two years now. I love her, and do not want to hurt her, but she suffers from a host mental issues such as OCD, social anxiety and depression, and borderline personality disorder. Basically, while we get along most of the time, we never go anywhere or have any outside social interaction. I want to have a social life, but feel guilty if I go anywhere on my own because I am basically her only link to the outside world. I'm not seeing any one else or planning on it, but I'm afraid that any attempt to get a little sspace will be viewed that way. How do I get space for myself without out hurting her, or at least minimizing the hurt?

Our Suggestion:
Presumably she is being treated for these disorders and has access to a professional therapist.

Ask her to pose your question to the therapist. That is, how can her b/f (you) get some space and societal interaction without freaking her out?

This is crucial to your well being. You don't want to live the rest of your life as a recluse. Get this dealt with and soon.

Good luck! George
p.s. if she doesn't have a therapist then get one for the both of you.
