Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
Well, I am very close to a girl at my church (FYI, I'm 19, turning 20. she's 18). Even though the friendship is just coming close to two years, we confide to each other in a lot of things. Also, her family thinks I'm a good person, and vice versa for my family. Plus, for some reason, a lot of the other youths at church are "claiming" her for me, saying that we would make a great couple. The "problem" is that I feel we kinda do have the potential to be a good couple, but I'm so worried that if I ask her to be my girlfriend, she might not like me that way and feel akward or something, which may spill a little on the family, becasue I am fairly tight to her older sister and younger brother. I mean, I have told the girl many-a-time that no matter what may happen in our lives, I will always strive to be a friend to her (FYI, it was not used in any type of "be my girl" speech), but with people, you can never be sure of their outcomes. So, to conclude, my question is, do you guys think I should I try to make a gamble to start a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship, or should I wait until we're a little bit older to try to run a serious relationship? (FYI, I don't really feel the "dating game" that much. I'm trying to look for the right girl for me AND the right opportunity/timing that might lead to a long-term relationship, and not some time-wasting "summer love" type of movement) I hope my question is clear enough for you to answer and thank you for your time.

Our Suggestion:
Certainly you should find out if a bf/gf relationship will work.

You never mentioned whether she likes you or you like her, but I gather there is at least some attraction. You might ask yourself why you didn't mention that.

Don't worry about entering a summer romance... sometimes that's the way things turn out and if you don't try you will never know.

So, ask her out on dates... the movies, dinner, walks, picnics, concerts, or just hanging out. You will soon find out how well you fit together.

Good luck! George
