I don't want to ruin what we have

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
There's a girl I know from a nearby school and we're pretty good friends, but I think she's very attractive and I would really like to ask her out. We only see each other about once a month (I would like that to change) but we talk online all the time. She's told me a lot of personal things and I think she likes me as more than a friend, but I'm not sure. I want to ask her out, but in past friendships with other girls the second they find out I would be interested in dating them they immediately stop talking to me altogether. I want to be able to find out if she likes me and ask her out, but I don't want to hurt our friendship because we are great friends with a lot of common interests. What should I do?

Our Suggestion:
My advice is to wait before asking her out.

Tell her that you are "developing feelings" for her and wonder how she feels about that. Tell her you don't want your feelings to grow stronger if she isn't interested in you that way. This shouldn't be threatening to her and she would probably be happy to clear the air one way or the other.

If she isn't ready to give you an answer, tell her you will ask her again the next day. She will spend all her time thinking about you and will have an answer the next day so don't forget to ask her the next day.

Good luck! George
