Visitor's Question:
Lately I have found myself liking a girl that i've known vaguely for the past couple of years. The two of us have never really gotten a chance to talk much, and hang out in completely different groups, which makes it tough for me to make any kind of a move toward her. Anyway, in my Social and English classes I sometimes find myself looking at her a lot. For the past few weeks, shes been catching me looking at her, and everytime she does, she simply stares back for a moment, or glances at me for a second to see if I actually am looking at her. She shows no real anger when I'm looking at her and doesn't make an attempt to interact back or make me feel like I shouldn't be looking at her. I know shes caught on to the fact that I like her, and on rare occasions I do see her staring in my direction for short periods of time, though i'm not entirely sure it's at me. She glances at me a lot though. We've never talked but have been in many classes together, so the most contact we've really had to date is through our eyes. She doesnt say hello to me and I dont say it to her either, because we're in completely different social groups altogether and it would be very awkward to just randomly say hi to someone i've never talked to in my life, that's in a different social group than me to boot. I'm really confused as to whether there's even a chance that she lieks me, or if she might be afriad of the fact that i'm looking at her, and of how I can make contact with her without it seeming so awkward. Please help, any reply would be deeply appreciated.

Cheers.

Our Suggestion:
There's nothing awkward about saying hello to anyone. They like it.

Next chance you get, greet her by looking her in the eyes, saying in a clear voice "Hi" plus her name, and giving her a big smile. She may be surprised the first time and give you a shy or worried hello back. Don't let that bother you, just keep saying hi until she responds normally.

Good luck! George
