Did I make a mistake

Visitor's Question:
Sorry to write back so soon, I know you have a lot of questions coming in but I need help fast. I just emailed you earlier today regarding the girl I worked with at the pizza place. Anyway a brief summary: I've like this girl-she dumped her boyfriend-I now want to ask her out-I was told I should and I plan to but think I made a mistake earlier tonight while chatting with her online. You see, we were chatting and for whatever reason I asked her what she would wish for if she had a wish and she said "to spend the rest of my life with the one guy i love with all my heart, and that i trust fully, and that he does me too." I assumed she meant her boyfriend she had just broke up with. I now have second thoughts about asking her out. To test her I came up with a metaphor about me looking at this apple encased in glass(the apple being her and the glass being her boyfriend). I then said I saw this basket of apples sitting beside the encased one but I didn't want one of those(those apples being other girls). I then said that the glass was removed(her breaking up with her boyfriend), and that I just wanted to go up and take the apple but when I got to the apple just stood there unsure of what to do, whether the apple wanted me to pick it up or not. Was this a bad move trying to describe how I feel about her like this? Should I have not used a metaphor to try and describe this? Should I not tell her it's meaning? I'm so confused and want nothing more than to be with this girl.

Our Suggestion:
Her answer to you was not referring to her boyfriend but to guys in general.

You metaphor was a good one and she probably got its meaning either consciously or subconsciously.

My advice is to ask her out and stop dawdling around. Somebody else may ask her before you do.

Good luck! George
