He didn't want to end it...

Visitor's Question:
My boyfriend loves me and I love him. However, his parents HATE me. They told him they would kick him out, disown him, stop paying for college, and take away his car if he continued to date me. We were together for 13 months and out of those 13 we had our bad times just like any other relationship. They think, however, that he deserves better than me and wont even accept the fact we love each other. They won't listen to his feelings and treat him like he is 12. A few days ago he broke up with me beacuse he couldn't take the stress anymore. I feel hopeless and I know he didnt want to do it. Wether we go back out or not, should I send his parents a letter explaining to them I am sorry for what I caused them but that I always loved their son, regardless of any fights we had or any words I may have said within those fights ?...His parents ruined what was supposed to be a "always forever, heart and soul" love relationship.

Our Suggestion:
His parents are extremely unreasonable.

Their threats are outlandish. So writing them a letter will do no good (except for your feelings, perhaps.) The parents have what they want and will not give it up.

My advice is to move on. Think about it... if he is going to go along with his parents wishes that sets the precedent for all future relationships. I don't think you want to live under the thumb of unreasonable in-laws.

Good luck and Happy Holidays! George
