Visitor's Question:
i am 16 and i have a boyfriend whos a little older and my mom wants me to break up with him. but i know that its too late because i love him and i will be depressed for a long time. i tried talking to my mom and she doesnt wanna listen to me she says that hes too old and that she will call the cops. but all my friends have older boyfriends. in the community that i live, all girls of 16 have boyfriends who are 20. i really dont want to break up with him. what can i do. and talking some sense into my mom isnt going to help, its impossible i tried

Our Suggestion:
Your mother is trying to look out for your best interests as best she can.

Try this: instead of getting depressed and moping around, show her how good you can be. Study as hard as you can and get A's; help around the house a lot; hang out with friends that your mother respects; dress just the way she wants you to and treat her with respect. No arguing.

Make a list of all your friends by name. Next to their name write their boyfriend's name and age and the friend's telephone number. Do the same for many of the girls in your community.

Both of these activities will convince your mother that you are serious about what you want and also that she is out-of-step with the times. If you show her a list of all your friends she can call the mother's and get their opinion.

This will also show here how mature you are at 16 and not like some 16 year old who are immature and unreasonable.

She may still not agree, but at least you gave it a try.

Good luck! George
