What do we talk about?

Suggest Advice

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
My girlfriend and I have been going out for 3 months. We use to have such good conversations and now we have nothing really to talk about. What can i do to make it so we have those kinds of talks again and what things can we talk about that would probably interest both of us.

Our Suggestion:
All relationships go through phases. You shouldn't have a set desire to be like "other relationships". You guys talked before and that was great. Now you enjoy just BEING together and that is also great! Yes, it's nice to have a partner you can rattle away with all night. But it is ALSO great to have a partner that you can simply sit with, stare at the moon, and be happy with for many hours. Sometimes there is no need for words.

But if you really want to talk because you don't like silence, I have some suggestions here -

Why not read a book and talk about it? Watch a movie? Discuss the latest CD by your favorite band? Your mind needs to be learning new things in order to talk about them. So make it an active part of your relationship to experience new things and then share your thoughts on them.
