Why would he say it and not mean it?

Visitor's Question:
I have this great bunch on friends that I hang out with most of my time. Most of us are on the same course in university. On one night we were just goofing around which resulted in me almost being in my friend's arms. Since we were kinda stuck in there we didn't bother to do anything about it (other people held us in place). It was very funny. He even fed me cake and told me I took his breath away every time I was near him. Okay- I blamed it on an alcohol (although nobody drank very much).
Later, some people left, others remained. And some got sleepy- so me and my friend (girl) were laying on a mattress, when he kinda fell between us. Would it mean something that he kept his face turned towards me and his hand around me? And he didn't change anything when my friend left. another couple was still somewhere in the room and I left when they did. But I still blamed eveything on an alcohol.
But the next time he still found a way to be near me. When the others started to make fun of us and we rejected everything, he told that there's no point in it, since we don't care at all. How can he act so neutral? Can alcohol really make people be like that? Or am I trying to see something that isn't really there and I should forget the whole thing? Or maybe I should ask him if I ever (probably never) had the guts- in that case- what would I ask?? I wouldn't actually care, if I hadn't liked him for a long time now. Pretty please for some advice :)

Our Suggestion:
It seems clear to me that he likes you.

Keep doing the same things with him so that the attraction between you will grow. Then, when you feel the time is right, ask him to a movie or to take a walk.

Alcohol probably is a factor since it gives him more courage to do what he wants to.

Good luck! George
