Getting over the guy I broke up with

Visitor's Question:
I'm truly sorry if you have already answered this question, but I couldn't find it quickly.

I had been dating this guy for 9 months when he asked me to marry him. We had talked about marriage, so it wasn't completely out of the blue, although I was still a little surprised. I knew at that point that he was not the man for me. The feeling came so strong that I knew it with out even having to think about it. It was easy to say no and turn him down and because of my response we are no longer dating. We both felt it wasn't going to go anywhere because of how strongly I felt that it wasn't right. The problem is, no matter how much I still know it isn't right to marry him, I do miss him and I did love him. He is a very good man with wonderful qualities. After the break-up though, I have no ambition or desire to date anyone else and don't really care. I don't wish I was back with him, but I have no motivation to move on. I'll admit that my experience has been more on the other side. I know what to do when someone breaks up with me, but I haven't really broken up with someone before to this magnitude. I just need some in site and advice to get me through the next few months with out thinking I need to get back together with him, because he has already said he'll wait forever for me. I need to be able to move on for his sake and mine. Please help.

Our Suggestion:
As you know, the way to move on is to start dating again. Even though you don't feel like it, you should find guys to take your mind off your situation.

Perhaps you like the feeling of having someone loving you to the point of asking you to marry him. That may be a feeling you don't want to put aside yet.

Also, you know he will feel worse if you start to date and you don't want to hurt him. But, as you said it is for his sake as well as yours.

Good luck! George
