Getting her attention when she's in a group

Suggest Advice

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
Just some background. We have been on a 1 to 1 study date a few weeks back. Even had lunch together before. We are classmates, but hardly ever talk to each other within the school. We exchanges messages over the phone and the msn, but I really want to engage in conversation even in school.

The problem arises due to the fact that she is sitting in a corner, surrounded by her female friends. I really want to go over to talk to her, but doing so risks letting the entire class know about my affections for her. I can sense mutuality in this relationship from our conversations and "dates", but I am highly uncertain as to the level she is willing to take the relationship to. I am afraid of letting the entire class know about this affection I have for her as that would mean teasing and everything.

what's the best way to deal with this situation? How do I start talking to her when she is with her friends? What would be a good way to start off the short chat? Do I really have to buck up the courage to ask if I can join her and the rest of her female friends for lunch? I'm not exactly one who can easily communicate and make small talk with others around me.

Please help :(

Our Suggestion:
I don't recommend that you try to join her and her female friends. They feel comfortable talking about things that interest them. Instead, mention to her on the phone or msn that you would like to have an opportunity to chat with her occasionally away from the group.

If she says yes, then you need to have something to talk about. Please see:

which will give you ideas.

Good luck! George
