I Gave In to Temptation

Suggest Advice

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
okay, there is this girl at my work. I am a good guy, and I have never cheated on my girlfriend that I have had for three years. Well I finally got the nerve to say hi to this girl, and then she would always ask me to take breaks with her. We have started talking, and have so much in common.

I like my girlfriend so much, but I think I am starting to like this girl alot more. My girlfriend and I don't have that much in common, and I can't get this other girl out of my head. What does this mean? What should I do? HELP!!!

Our Suggestion:
Life is full of temptation. There will ALWAYS be other girls out there that are attractive and that you could cheat on your girlfriend with. The whole point of being in a relationship is that you resist those temptations and remain true to the person you have committed yourself to.

However in your case you deliberately went out of your way to start flirting and talking to another girl, getting to know her better, and are still doing that! And you ask what is wrong??? You weren't just seduced by temptation, you went out and explicitly tracked it down!

If you are serious about your relationship, then you need to cool it down with this work girl. It's fine and dandy to have female friends. Every guy should have some. But you seem incapable of seeing the line between friendship and betrayal and dove right into getting emotionally involved with someone else. Your girlfriend doesn't deserve to have you splitting your love up.

The next time you start to think another girl is cute and fun, you have to remember to yourself that YOU ARE ALREADY SPOKEN FOR. You're not supposed to be out deliberately trying to flirt with and date new girls. You're supposed to be spending time and attention with the girl you DO have. If you really don't want to be with the girl you're with, then break up with her! But if you DO want to be with her, then RESPECT her and BE with her.
