Missing my Ex

Suggest Advice

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
Hi there...I met someone about 5 years ago...For 2 years we were the best of friends and companions...No romantic interest at all. We even were dating other people. We moved across the country and after a few months we realized our compatibility; and moved forward into a relationship. There was no difference between this and our friendship other than we were lovers and said "honey" "sweety". She has 2 kids...and I love them as though they are my own. We were a great family and kids love me too...

Once the relationship ended, the friendship did as well. I have never felt the way that I do about this person...She was truly the woman of my dreams...and still is. It has been a few months...and I can't eat, sleep, work...I find myself waiting for a hello, how are you email...or a phone call. The thought of her romantically involved with someone else makes me ill to my stomach...

How can I get over this...

Our Suggestion:
It can easily take more than a few months to get over a relationship. So don't make yourself rush through the healing process. Get involved with friends, join a local club, get involved in hobbies. You need to rebuild your life in a way that it is full of fun activities. Over time the pain will heal, but it does take time and a redirection of your energies.

If you guys were great friends before, there's no reason for you not to be great friends now. Most couples that break up end up staying in touch and enjoying each others' friendships. So why not make contact? Just send her an email saying that you still think of her and hoping she is OK. Maybe she'll respond. That way you'll know she is doing all right and that might help you move on with your own life.
