My Good Friend is Giving Mixed Signals

Visitor's Question:
This boy and I have become close friends and have been flirting for the last six months. I'm two years older though. At first I was sure that he liked me because he always hung around me and smiled. He would stare at me and look into my eyes for a long time. Then he got a girlfriend. But the whole time he had a girlfriend he didn't change his behavior toward me, he would always stare at me and say I was "sexy" and ask my opinions.

His relationship with that girl was pretty short. Now its a few months later and thing with us were going really great! I was sure he had a crush on me, then I find out he had a crush on some other girl. He told me that he did when I confronted him. But none of this makes any sense to me. The girl is nothing like him, the opposite of what he likes.

And he's really mad at me now that I've been ignoring him. I'm so confused, he showed every sign of liking me. And this girl he claims to like doesn't even like him back.

Our Suggestion:
You need to learn some life lessons here :) First off, guys date who they want to date. You can't tell them who they "should" date and who they "should not" date. Opposites attract, after all. Obviously he does like that girl, so your statement that it is "the opposite of what he likes" is wrong.

If this is a guy that actively chases other women while he has a girlfriend, I'd stay away from him. He's not going to stop doing that any time soon. In the meantime, you need to learn that a relationship is about accepting each other - not about making demands on what the other "should do".
