He Kissed Me Back

Suggest Advice

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
This guy and I have been flirting for a really long time now and I am really comfortable to be around him (at least i was) and on friday we went to a movie with the rest of the grade im in... and during it i kissed him and he was kissing me back... then today he said that he had a girlfriend and he thought i knew... but i didnt. do you think he likes me because he kissed me back or what does him kissing me back mean?

Our Suggestion:
If he kissed you back, it means he liked you :) But he also was probably really confused and guilty because he figured you knew about his girlfriend and were getting him to cheat which is REALLY BAD. You don't want him to think you're a cheating type!! Very few people would ever want to date a cheater.

So first, make sure that's very clear. Tell him in no uncertain terms that you did NOT know he was dating someone and would never have done that if you'd known. He has to think of you as someone that would be true to her man, so that if you two did become able to date, he'd be willing to date you.

Once that's straight, you now both know you really like each other and are interested in each other. So it's up to him to make the next decision. He can choose to stay with his current girlfriend or choose to be with you. You have to give him the space to make that decision on his own. You can still be good friends and talk - lots of friends kiss a few times and then stay friends. It's normal :) You're friends that have a sexual tingle in your friendship and who care for each other. Keep flirting, keep being friends, but don't kiss him again until he decides what to do. Once is a mistake, but more than that is cheating and not something either of you want to make a practice of, if you want to be in a trusting relationship later.

Hopefully he'll see that what he has with you is more special than what he has with his girlfriend. It might take him a week to see that, or a month, or longer. So just stay his friend, and keep talking to him, and be there for him. If it seems like he's decided on staying with his girlfriend, stay friends with him but keep your own eyes open for a boyfriend of your own.
