I Want Him Back

Visitor's Question:
My ex and I just broke up a few weeks ago. I have liked him for six months now. We were together for only a week and a half. He told me all sorts of things about how great I was and how he would never want to break up with me. I was nearly in love with him. I believed everything he told me. I trusted him fully. I liked him just for him... and I thought he felt the same way... until he broke up with me.

He explained how we were such good friends before that it was just weird being together. He said going back to friends would be the best... but now we barely talk... we barely even say "hi." His best friend is telling me all sorts of rotten things that he has said. I asked my ex about it and he says that all his best friend says is lies... and I believe my ex. He was so serious about it. I know I can still trust him....

so my problem is that I want him back. I'm nearly in love. Its been a few weeks and I'm still overly depressed about our breakup. I cried for 7 hours after we broke up. I still need him. How do I get him back?

Our Suggestion:
It's typical that our first instinct on a break-up is to immediately want the person back. Yes, there's a lot of pain and that is normal. You need to give yourself time to get over him.

It's hard to accept - but you guys tried it for a while, and he chose to leave. Now he's avoiding you. That in itself seems really odd. Give it some time and then talk to him once things are calmer.
