Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
Me and my girlfriend are in the military and just broke up after a year and a half together because we are about to move to different bases. We both love each other very much and want to get married someday, but she just admitted to me that she will probably sleep with other people while we are apart. I'm a pretty jealous person and I don't know how to deal with this. The thought of her sleeping with someone else makes me not want to ever see her again. I know it sounds selfish but I feel like if she really loved me that she could wait for me. I would wait for her. I don't know what to do. Please help.

Our Suggestion:
I think she's being direct and honest, which is wonderful if horribly painful. It's better that she tell you this now rather than two months into the breakup and shock you then.

It sounds to me like she's ready to move on to her new base and needs to make the break easier on herself by distancing herself from you. It's a natural thing for her to do, even if it's horribly painful for both of you.

I suggest that you also find ways to put this in the past and move on from it. You will always treasure her friendship and the past you shared with her, but it's too hard to try to continue with you two in different parts of the world.

I wish you the best.
