My boyfriend of almost 3 years and I are " taking a break".

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
Well my situation is this: My boyfriend of almost 3 years and I are " taking a break". We made clear that we are not breaking up, just taking some time apart. He has alot going on with his job ( working 12 hours a day 6 days a week), a hefty mortgage, a nosy mother, and I guess me. So instead of breaking up, which would have happened if we kept going the way we were, we decided to take some time. Now, my fear is this. If it were up to me this time is going to make us stronger and we would get back and have a better relationship, but he mentioned to me that all our fights, were making him think he was " falling out of love" with me. That he still loved me , but he needed time to clear his mind. Do you think this is healthy, and that he will clear his mind and realize I am the one. We are only 21 and 24 years old, but we have been through sooo much up and down. HELP! I'm going crazy, and it's only the 3rd day of our agreed 3 week break.

Our Suggestion:
Do you get to have any contact with each other during these 3 weeks? I'd suggest sending him a love poem each morning, or send him little stories of memories of good times you've had together. Anything so that he comes around to feeling more romantic about you.

I've seen things like this go either way, so I can't say whether it will work out for you or not. But what I can say is that you can use this time too, to figure out why you two would fight and how you can avoid it in the future. You want to be able to show him that when he gets back together with you that things will be much better than they were before. You have a long history with each other, I don't think that will go away easily.

Good luck!
