My Threatening Ex-Girlfriend wants to come back

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
MY EX-GIRLFRIEND WANTS TO GO BACK OUT WITH ME BUT I DON'T WANT SOMETHING TO HAPPEN LIKE WHAT HAPPENED LAST TIME WHEN SHE THREATENED ME AND MY FAMILY. SHE SAYS SHE'S FIXED HER ACT BUT AM I SUPPOSED TO BELIEVE THAT? I AM VERY CONFUSED AND I FEEL LIKE I'M IN A POSITION THATS TOO WEIRD FOR ME. WHAT SHOULD I DO??

Our Suggestion:
It can be very hard for people to learn to control their emotions and tempers, but it does happen. And it's an important thing to get under control before you get into a serious relationship. It can be true that she has grown up a bit, or it can be true that she's just as immature as before and will prove it when she loses control.

The only way you'll know is to actually be in the situation. It's completely up to you. Do you really care for her enough to deal with any complications? Or would you rather find someone else that is more even tempered and sane to start with? If you really do care a lot for her and are willing to try again, lay down the rules. There is NEVER any reason for anyone to be threatened, period. That's how a 5 year old acts, not how a dating person acts. So if she's saying to you she's old enough to date, that's fine. But if she proves to you she is NOT old enough to date through immature behavior, the dating is off.

Good luck either way! And stand by your groundrules - nobody deserves to be treated badly in life. If she thinks she can get away with acting like a baby, she can do so in her own house, alone.
