There Is Life after a Breakup!

Suggest Advice

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
Not really a question but more of an update (manipulative girlfriend). I told you I would write to you when I got down to Arizona and although it has been a while, I am down here. It is beautiful!!! A couple 80 degree days which is better than the -40 that I moved from. Thank you for your advice. I have left the ex, taken my time, I am meeting new people down here and although I don't have a romantic interest right now, I am going to movies with people, out to the bars and still looking for a job.

A couple things I do want to say however.

To those who think there is no one else after a break-up, life isn't too bad being single if you can find things to do and enjoy yourself.

Also, I read about a guy who thinks all women hate him and he is starting to hate all women... My brother once said, the more often you put yourself at risk (of being shot-down or whatever) the better your chances are for succeeding.

I hope you can use those pieces of advice but as I know, you are pretty good already!

Our Suggestion:
Thanks so much for writing back, and I think this is a great message for all those pondering a breakup. It is ALWAYS better to be alone and have a chance to be happy, rather than being in a relationship with someone in which you are unhappy!! Yes, being alone can be scary. But really, it can be VERY NICE. And you will probably find someone out there who is much sweeter and kinder than your abusive ex is.

If you're unhappy, take the steps to make things better, and if it doesn't work IN the relationship you're in, take steps to end the relationship. Even just being alone without an actively cruel presence in your life is a great relief! Life is too short to stay with someone who actively has no interest in keeping a happy relationship.
