Visitor's Question:
I am 14 years old and I have a crush on a girl who is in my grade. I am shy when it comes to girls and she's not. She has dozens of friends and alot of them are guys. She is really popular and I'm not that popular. I know she doesn't have a boyfriend but I'm just trying to work up to being her friend. She knows me, but we are just aquaintances. We don't rally talk to eachother that much at all. She is in one of my classes but sits on the opposite side of the room with her friends so theres really no opportunity there. I pass by her in the hall once a day but again she's with her friends and I would be embarrassed. The only time I can talk to her is on the bus but her sister is with her. I don't rally know what to talk to girls about anyway. There is also no opportunity for me to try to get her phone number either. I want to approach her but not feel stupid and I don't want her to be the one thinking "Why is this kid talking to me". How can I become friends with her and that will lead up to going out?

Our Suggestion:
The first thing is to become friends with her.

From what you say, this won't be an easy thing to do, but you must do it if you want to have her as a girlfriend.

It sounds like the bus is the best place to start talking to her. Maybe you could talk about something going on in that class you have together. Perhaps you could ask her about a specific homework assignment.

Hopefully you know her name. Be sure to give her a big smile and say "hi" using her name. Do this whenever and as often as you can.

Shyness is no excuse... everyone is shy and the only way to get over it is to start creating a good relationship with her. It will probably take some time so don't expect miracles.

Good luck!
George
