Visitor's Question:
I am a gay male who has just been recently "let go" by my boyfriend of a year and a half. We were friends beforehand and have stayed friends, talk daily and go out as friends.

He broke it off with me because he says that he is not interested in men anymore, or women. He is not in the best health. He is trying to quit smoking, lose weight, has problems with his feet and heart. He takes heart medication. He has told me his libido had decreased. He thought it was the meds, but now he is insistant that it is because he has no sexual attraction to either sex.

He still wants to be friends and so do I. I do want him back.

Is it possible that it may be the medications that is making him feel this way?

A friend had told me to stick by him and give him some time. There is a little "something" that will make him come back. She told me the fact that he is still friends with me says something.

Am I doing the right thing for being there for him as a friend? Is there a possiblity of a second chance (especially since he still wants to be good friends)?

Thank you very much :)

Our Suggestion:
My guess is that the meds are the problem.

I'm no doctor but know from reading the "fine print" on meds that the side effects can be almost anything. Your friend should ask his doctor or his pharmacist if it is possible that the meds are causing the trouble.

Sticking by him is a good and kind idea. He needs friends at this point in his life and he will remember that if he returns to normal.

Best wishes!
