Visitor's Question:
I have been with my boyfriend for almost a year now. Six months into our relationship I moved 300 miles to be with him. He is in the military and lives on base and I have my own place off base. We had a really strong relationship before I moved here, but I had to move here because we weren't going to make it as a long distance couple. I have a really bad past with guys cheating on me and lying to me. He is not like that but I can't get stop the feeling of bad experiences from my past. He told me I am pushing him away with being jealous and that he was on the verge of breaking up with me, I love him very much and don't want to lose him. What can I do to stop being jealous and also to prove to him that I am trying hard not to be?

Our Suggestion:
Jealousy is a nasty habit that can ruin a good relationship.

Jealousy shows in in your thoughts and feelings. You have to work VERY hard to break the habit. It isn't easy, but you have to fight back when the jealousy appears. Say to it "Go away, I am very good and he loves me."

Do it over and over and over and eventually the jealousy will get tired of hounding you and just give up and leave you alone.

As I said, it is a very tough thing to do, but you have to do it if you want to keep him.

Tell him what you are doing and keep him up to date on how it is going. That will prove to him that you are trying. Try not to discuss jealous incidents with him, that makes him think you are not doing well.

Good luck,
George
