Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
Hi, what advice could you give me in a relationship if you've been with someone for more then 3 years, and both are still living with parents, and we cant even meet our own needs yet, and we are trying to meet eachother needs, and when it's hard when your g/f trys to get you to do quite a lot for her but not all of it, she does it also, when you can't even support your self. Also is it about being able to support your needs first before you can take care of her needs. That's where I'm at with an issue. My mom gave me advice about don't sacrafice your needs for hers if you can't.

What do you think? Thanks.

Our Suggestion:
Your mother's advice is excellent.

Naturally you should not sacrifice your needs for her's if you can't.

You need to find a balance between doing for her and doing for yourself. She should be doing the same thing. When you can give up something for her then you should do it and don't let her know that it was a sacrifice. She should be able to figure that out herself after all this time.

Keep trying. Pretty soon you will be out of school (if that's what you are doing) or you will add up your salaries and decide that you can save up to move in together. Hard work will eventually pay off for both of you.

Good luck! George
