I want her back, but my friends tell me it's not a good idea

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
I see a lot of advice on this site on how to get your ex back, but I didn't see much on whether or not you should actually do it. I broke up with a girl I had been dating for nearly 5 years about 8 months ago. I have known her for amost 9 years, and I know that I really do love her. We broke up three years ago because she was studying abroad and I was starting to have interest in somebody else. That only lasted for two months and we quickly got back together. We broke up again 8 months ago (for reasons that I can't remember, probably because I blocked them out). I dated a different girl about 4 months after we broke up, but have stopped seeing her. I've been trying to contact my ex to meet so we can talk and we have a couple of times, but I haven't heard from her for about 8 weeks. Despite all that has happened between us (the ups and downs of our relationship), I truly believe she is an amazing person and she is someone I would want to spend the rest of my life with. I can't see myself with other girls. I want her back, but my friends tell me it's not a good idea. How do you know? How do you know if you should get back with a person, and that it's not just the comfort factor you're after? How do you decide?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Our Suggestion:
You gave the answer yourself:

"I truly believe she is an amazing person and she is someone I would want to spend the rest of my life."

That's all that you need to consider. This is the reason to get back with someone. Don't listen to your friends.

Good luck! George
