I'm afraid he will start getting bored with me

Visitor's Question:
I have been together with my boyfriend for almost 2 months now and I am still shy around him. I am afraid of saying the wrong things and he will start getting bored with me. You see, for about the first month of our relationship we had to converse through email because we were not allowed to see each other yet until our parents met. I am 17 and he is 21 and I am afraid of sounding dumb around him. We tell each other how much we love each other every day, but I still get shy around him. I am even afraid to talk with him on the phone. I always get so nervous, because I am not a very good conversationalist. I am better at face-to-face. I want to so much to be able to talk with him on the phone. Is this normal? Please, any advice would be helpful.

Our Suggestion:
He won't get bored with you unless you stop talking.

So, talk about anything that comes to mind and he will be happy. He will be even more happy if you listen and ask questions about what he has to say.

Always ask him how he is doing and don't accept "fine" for an answer. Try to remember things from yesterday that he mentioned as troubling him. This might be from his family, friends, school, pets, sports or whatever. Keep up to date on whatever he is doing and ask questions about it. That will keep him interested in you too. You should be sharing your feelings and thoughts with him.

Conversation is very easy if you pay attention to what the other person is saying and if you remember what was on their mind the last time you spoke to them.

Good luck! George
