Just What Are We? Dating? Friends?

Visitor's Question from a 13-15 year old Female
I've known this guy for four years, he was my first-ever crush, but he used to talk to me just to be nice and all. Over the past few months, we've been hanging out together a lot, one on one. He picks me up, we go out, we talk about anything and everything...and then comes the goodbye. I hug everybody, so we've just been doing that, but it's like we both want to do something more, and neither of us knows how to go about it. He knows me inside-out, he's honest with me, and I can tell him anything.

Problem is, I've felt like this about a person only one other time, and he turned out to be emotionally abusive, and I don't want to get hurt again. I know this guy would never do that, but I'm afraid to get close, or to let him know how I feel. But when we go out, I never know if it's a date or not!

Should I ask him, or are there any signs or what? I'd just like to know if I should ask him out, or if we're already dating, or what we are. Thank you, and have a great day!

Labels in general are pretty bad things. They try to nail down what two people feel. Your feelings change day by day, or even hour by hour! So don't worry just yet what to "call" the way you guys do things. Just think about how it feels, and what you enjoy about it.

It sounds like you guys are great friends and also becoming romantically interested in each other. Which is great! I have lots of advice on moving the along here -

You guys are hugging which is good. So just give him a tender peck on the cheek with the hug, a lot of friends do that. But it moves you along to the next level. If he feels you kiss him softly on the cheek, he'll be tepmted to kiss your cheek to. And each time you do it, just drift closer and closer to the lips :)

Also, as you go to dinner and movies, start paying attention to the ones you choose. Choose more and more romantic dinners, more and more romantic movies. It can really affect your mood for the evening!
