A text message?

Visitor's Question from a 21-30 year old Female
My boyfriend and I dated for about 6 months but had been close friends for a few years. He had been angry for a few weeks prior and the night before it happened he kept starting fights with me over little things and taking out his anger for other people on me. I had enough and I walked out of his house after he wouldn't talk to me about what was bothering him. I went to a girlfriends house and out for a drink and ended up having a little too much to drink and I called him. I asked him if we were still fighting and if he was still angry and he hung up on me. I sent him a text that said if you don't want to be with me then just let me know that's when he responded with we are done. I haven't called him since and he hasn't tried to contact me in 2 days. How do I get closure? Why did he do it this way? This is someone that said he wanted to marry me and spend the rest of his life with me and it just seems like he's giving up.
