How can I turn my boyfriend into my best friend instead?

i've been with my boyfriend for 5 years. he is the only person i've really been with and the only person i've truly loved but i feel that my love has turned into the best friendship ever, We are never intamiate and we never give each other complimets! I want to end the sexual realationship and start to see other people but I still want to stay friends i don't want to lose my best friend! i'm not sure what to do or even how to do this if anyone has any advice for me i would realy appriciate it thanks!

Since you are such good friends, you should be able to sit down and talk this through. Explain gently that you really care about him but that your feelings have shifted from romantic to just very close friendship. Let him know how much he means and that you think it's time for you to both branch out and try new relationships. Understand that he may be very hurt by this because it will probably be news to him that you want out. But if you handle it properly then you both will come out the other side in fine shape. A little shaken, no doubt, and there will probably be some tears too, but it's for the best.
