She should matter to you more than he will because guys come and go, but girlfriends are the ones who stick with you through thick and thin. Although you like him, you've got to get yourself under control and never let anything happen that shouldn't. Find yourself someone to play with until their relationship is over. Then you can ask her if she's ok with you dating him, but don't go after him before then. She should matter to you more than he should. That's what friendship's about.
