Meeting guy on Internet
Visitor's Question from a 13-15 year old FemaleOkay so I have been talking with a guy that IMed me awhile ago and we seemed to really connect. The thing is my parents don't ever want me meeting others off the internet, so I am not sure if I should. I am 18 and I do have a right to make my own decisions. I want to meet this guy, which is a really nice mature guy thats into a lot of the thing my family and I are into. So if we become really close I really don't think my parents would like to hear how I met him. Any suggestions on how I could tell my parents that I met this guy or my new boyfriend off the internet?? I am also afraid if I brought him home my parents would ask how we met and I think it would be too weird...Hope you understand what I am trying to say and ask...Please help me!! Could you email me back so I know when it is on the website? Thank you
RomanceClass.com AdviceThis is a tough situation for you to be in. Some parents have read horror stories about meeting strangers on the Internet, while other parents accept this new form of communication.
The only straightforward way to resolve this is to tell your parents that you have met someone on the Internet and you would like their permission to meet him in person. They are likely to balk at this, so perhaps you could then ask them if it would be ok to invite him for dinner so they could meet him too. This could be a wonderful opportunity for everyone to meet each other and for your parents to accept him. Another possibility might be to meet at a restaurant which might be more comfortable for everyone.
I don't advise meeting him without your parents permission for all the reasons you pointed out in your question.
Hope this turns out the way you want it to.
