I don't trust anyone to get close enough to hurt me
Visitor's Question from a 21-30 year old FemaleEver since my divorce and my last long relationship didn't worked out I am scared of commitment. Anytime I date any one person for longer than a month or two I feel myself building a wall and backing away. My current boyfriend told me he loved me a few weeks ago and at first I was ecstatic, now I find myself becoming annoyed with every little thing he does. I have noticed myself backing away and not wanting to spend as much time with him.
Why do I always run away from commitment? Is there something I can do to get over this? I don't trust anyone to get close enough to hurt me.
I feel like I let them in enough so that they trust me and as soon as I know they care about me I back off and end up hurting them in the process, which is never my intention. I don't want to do this again. Please let me know what you think. Thank you.
RomanceClass.com AdviceSometimes the inability to trust others comes from a feeling that you can't be trusted yourself.
Ask yourself if this might not be possible. Have your relationships been on the up and up or have you held back for some reason?
The divorce and broken long term relationship may also have left you feeliing that you can't trust.
It wouldn't be good to live the rest of your life without a trusted person... you should really think hard about this and make it a daily todo to work on this problem. Counselling would probably help you too.
Good luck! George
