It's Christmas break now and I'm going crazy

Visitor's Question from a 16-20 year old Female
Okay heres the story. I've known this guy for about 5 months. We became good friends in the last month or so. We go to school together and have many classes together. He makes me laugh all the time. Everytime I talk to him he has a grin on his face. When ever we see eachother in the halls we say hi to eachother at the same time. In one of our classes we have together he sits in the front of the class and I sit in the back. Whenever the teacher leaves, he always turns back and calls my name and starts teasing me and I start laughing like a dork and tease him back.
Its Christmas break now and I'm going crazy. I already have a nickname for him and constantly space out into dream world and think about what it would be like if we were together.
The problem is I don't know if its a good idea to ask him out or wait for him to ask me. I think he has an idea that I like him but I'm not sure if he thinks of me the same way.
