people FAR less attractive than me get dates

Visitor's Question from a 16-20 year old Male
I am starting college and still have never had anything remotely close to a girlfriend. I didn't really mind all that much, but now just the site of couples makes me extremely sad. I don't understand why girls don't like me. A female friend of mine reassured me that I will find someone eventually because I am kind, sensitive, sincere, caring, understanding, funny, and smart. But I am just confused and frustrated now, because I realize that I probably never had a girlfriend in high school because I never really tried. But I have been trying very hard lately and no matter how well I dress, how nice I am, how sincere I am in my approach, I fail miserably. And now I think I lost that female friend I talked about earlier, because I thought that maybe we could start dating, and I asked her out(I secretely had a crush on her all along), and she said no. I don't know what's wrong with me. Complete assholes get dates all the time. It can't be my physical appearance because I have seen people FAR less attractive than me getting dates. Can you tell me what is wrong with me?

Your university has a Student Health Center (yours should be at phone number 768-2211). Contact them and ask for an appointment to see a counselor.

He/she can give you professional advice in person where they can experience you physically and emotionally. My guess is that they will have some help for you.
