Raising Children - Role Models
Children are fine having friends and siblings - but the most important thing they are doing while they grow up is learning how to be an adult. They can ONLY learn that from mature adults. If the child has two adults they know are going to be there 100% of the time, through thick and thin, with a pledged loyalty that all around them acknowledge, it gives the child a great sense of stability. It shows the child first hand what respect and love and holding true to your word is all about.
One of the most critical things a child can learn is how to behave in an adult relationship - how to resolve differences, how to share, how to cooperate. You need 2 adults, living together, interacting constantly, for the child to really learn this lesson. And by having the marriage vows there, the most critical lesson of all - of dependability and holding true to your vows - is shown on a daily basis.
