Creating more conversations
Ask people what they think,so you will invite more conversations.
"What do you think about 'any topic you like'?"
Feel free to try out conversations you like and notice how 'this person' treats them.
Ask your date for their opinion, they'll probably smile because they now know, "it's not all about you". Some will even take it as a compliment.
If a stimulating conversation ensues, you're probably on a winner.
